DT Card for Lexi's Creations Challenge #66 'For the Man/Boy in your Life'

Another black themed card for me (not required for the challenge). A little to much  beige as it fools the camera and I had quite a time getting the exposure down to something acceptable. The Barnyard - Beccy's Place

Beccy's Place  The  May14th feature release is a digital image  called  'The Barnyard' . My granddad had a huge red barn and we loved to play in the hayloft when we could. When they took it down  long after my Grandpa had passed, my Grandmother who no longer lived on the farm (it was still in the family) came home for the event with  the statement 'I watched it go up and I will watch it come down'. I knew what she meant as I could understand the feeling so well.   She had raised a family of twelve and the barn had played a big role in the raising. Life has it's moments and the taking down of what was so important years ago is one of them.  The image was coloured with Prismacolor Markers  and the old boots in the corner are from another digital stamp from Beccy's Place!

Raise the Bar - Guest Bar - Tender

I was picked   one of the top three  at a recent 'Raise the Bar' challenge  for my 'Sounds of Spring'  card and won a guest  slot  for one of their upcoming challenges, which happens to be the one that starts  today!!. The theme is Mother's Day  (2nd Sunday in May) in honour of all  the Mother's out there.  As my dear Mom has been gone for some time now (oh how I still miss her) I try to make my Mother's Day cards  to represent mothers  past and present, young and old, depending upon my mood. This card  represent a young ,stylish one.   I urge you to go take a visit and join the fun and maybe even win a guest slot...

I used an image from Little Miss Muffet called 'Emily Rose Hatter' and she is a darling. I coloured her with Prismacolor Markers, framed her with two Spellbinders Nestabilities oval die cuts and created a sentiment  from Doodle Pantry's Fancy Shoe' digital stamp set. Sea Buckthorn

Doodle Pantry is sponsoring the  May 7th,2012 Craft Your Passion Challenge'        and the theme is Torn and Distressed Edges.  Go take a peek   and  if you enter their challenge you might win a Doodle Pantry prize.    This was quite a challenge for me as I am a big fan of distressing but have very seldom made a torn or distressed edged card, I just never seem to know what to do.  I was looking forward to this challenge as it would force me to give it a go. I did the distressing  using a Tim Hotlz tool  and it worked surprisingly well, however any torn  edges were totally unintentional. I wasn't brave enough to actually  tear them with my fingers:O)

Dreamcatcher

Using an ancient Indian Symbol: When my son was very little he started having nightmares so I made him a dream catcher and we hung it  above his bed near the window, to catch the bad dreams before they got to him.  One day he told  me that he  needed a new one as he had looked at the dreamcatcher and it was full  of all the bad  dreams it had caught. I  wondered what in the world he was talking about. Much to my great embarrassment  I found it was indeed full, full of dust that is. Down it came, I dusted it and put it back, but it had lost it's effectiveness according to my young son and no  longer stopped the bad dreams.  I  was dusting  it on an ongoing basis and I think because he could no longer see the evidence of the dreams being caught  he really never believed in it again.:O)

I made this card for him as he has just completed his University education this April. He now has a diploma in Creative Writing and a BA in English. Inside the card is a compartment for a check his Dad and I will be giving him in celebration of this achievement. He has been the most wonderful child ,I know we all say that but he was easy to raise, he has a strong   sense of right and wrong, will not willing hurt anyone , has good friends, a wonderful girlfriend  and  wants  children (someday)...Yaaaay, I personally feel this is important as I want (being selfish ) to hear little footsteps in my house again, if only for visits. Oooh the cookies I will make...
